Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder characterised by unpleasant sensitive sensations and the urge to move, especially during periods of rest. While the causes are unknown, a connection with dopaminergic changes in the CNS is suspected. Other factors such as genetic predisposition, iron deficiency and neurological changes also play a role.
Therapy can include behavioural changes, drug interventions, complementary therapies such as acupuncture, yoga, tai chi and certain herbs to relieve symptoms. Balancing the iron metabolism is also key.

In addition to lifestyle changes and medication, complementary therapies are also effective in relieving RLS symptoms. An individualised program is key to improve quality of life.
